Prescription Drug Take Back Day raises more than 80 pounds in Richland County

MANSFIELD – A number of law enforcement and health agencies have teamed up to host a Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 26.

In Richland County, the combined effort yielded more than 80 pounds of prescription medications.

The METRICH Enforcement Unit along with the Mansfield Division of Police, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby Police Department, Lexington Police Department, Bellville Police Department, Plymouth Police Department, Community Action for Capable Youth (CACY), Richland County Solid Waste Authority, Richland Public Health and the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board participated in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Take Back Initiative.

In addition to Richland County law enforcement agencies, numerous other law enforcement agencies from the METRICH region also participated. The METRICH region collected more than 1,448 pounds of unused or expired prescription medications.

Community participation and commitment from all law enforcement agencies in the METRICH region were key to the success of this event.
