Man, reportedly armed with a gun, confronts Clay County sheriff’s deputies

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A man allegedly armed with a handgun found himself in a standoff with Northland police officers Monday evening after allegedly assaulting a woman and refusing police orders to come out of a home in Pleasant Valley, Missouri.

The incident began around 6:20 p.m. when Claycomo and Plesant Valley police officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 7100 block of Fulton Road, according to a news release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.

A woman and her children were coming out of the home when Claycomo officers arrived.

The woman told officers that the man in the home had assaulted her, was still in the home and armed with a gun.

The woman was not seriously injured in the attack, according to the news release.

He refused the officer’s orders to leave the home and deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Special Tactics and Response (STAR) team responded to the home.

Police officers evacuated nearby homes.

They are also trying to find out if anyone other than the suspect is in the home, the news release said.
