WATCH: The communities of Fearless Kibler Park and Mayfield Park are tackling crime head-on

Sixteen community members went from Kibler Park SPAR to a makeshift informal settlement behind the Pikitup dump.

They went there with one mission: to tear down the informal structures, which they believe are havens for thieves who have terrorized them.

The residents went there without police or any protection and were unarmed.

There are at least eight of these structures. One was with two women of color and two toddlers, the other with three men and a woman, and some were empty.

One of the men who lived there, Tshepiso Moloi, originally from KwaZulu-Natal, said God sent him to live there. He called the place Israel.

The woman said they were not aware of the criminal activity the community was talking about.

“I don’t know if anyone or thieves are coming here. “I have nothing and nowhere else to go,” she said.

Although none of the huts have currently been demolished, they were sternly warned to vacate the site as soon as possible.

Fox Tactical Unit and Night Hawks Tactical are on scene; some shots were fired.

In one of the scenes, a water pump generator, two shovels and two pickaxes were found. Five suspected Zama Zamas fled to the Mall of the South.

This is a development story, the Southern Courier will update readers as more information becomes available.
