Bullet fired by robbers at bus stop pierces Chatham house and hits woman inside

A woman in an apartment was shot Monday night by a bullet fired by robbers at a bus stop in Chatham on the South Side.

About 9:30 p.m., a 34-year-old man was standing at a bus stop in the 8200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when he was approached by three armed men who demanded his property, Chicago police said.

As the robbers seized the man’s belongings, the victim began running away, prompting the gunmen to open fire, police said.

Although the robbery victim was not shot, a 20-year-old woman was when a bullet pierced an apartment building in the 8200 block of South Evans Avenue.

She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was in good condition, police said.

Area 2 detectives are investigating, but no arrests have been made.
