Gas station employee shoots suspected shoplifter in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) – Winston-Salem police say a gas station employee shot a man suspected of shoplifting from a store Tuesday morning.

Around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the Mobil gas station at 500 Akron Drive after receiving a report of a shooting.

At the scene, police encountered a gas station employee who called 911.

According to detectives, the employee saw a man shoplifting in the store and confronted him about it. At one point, the employee pulled out a gun and shot the suspected shoplifter outside the store.

The suspected shoplifter then left the scene.

Officers searched the area surrounding the Mobil station and found the suspected shoplifter suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was cited for theft and declined to press charges for the shooting.
