ED files a supplementary chargesheet against AAP’s Amanatullah Khan, another named accused

New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan in a Delhi court in an alleged case of irregularities in the administration of Delhi Waqf.

The first 110-page supplementary charge sheet alleged that Khan had laundered money allegedly generated through corruption in the Delhi Waqf Board.

The prosecution’s complaint (the equivalent of the ED complaint) named one Mariam Siddiqui, who was not arrested by the ED, as a suspect in the case. The court is likely to hear the case on November 4.

The ED claimed that there was enough evidence to prosecute Khan and others in the case under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Special Judge Vishal Gogne, before whom his bail plea was filed on Tuesday, posted the hearing for November 7.

The ED arrested Khan on September 2 under the provisions of the PMLA after conducting a search at his residence in Delhi’s Okhla area and alleged that he was “evasive” when questioned.

The money laundering probe against Khan stems from two FIRs: the Central Bureau of Investigation case related to the alleged irregularities in the Wakf board and an alleged disproportionate assets case registered by the Anti-Corruption Unit of Delhi Police.

Delhi government candidate to present views to the parliamentary panel on the Waqf Bill

Following protests from Opposition members over the presentation by the Delhi Waqf Board official, Parliament’s Joint Committee on the Waqf Amendment Bill on Tuesday agreed to hear the views of the Delhi government.

Committee chairman Jagdambika Pal’s assurance came after hours of protests by opposition members Sanjay Singh, Mohamed Abdulla and Asaduddin Owaisi over the presentation by Delhi Waqf Board trustee Ashwini Kumar, which Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said was not approved by her.

The issue had stalled the committee’s proceedings on Monday and Kumar was asked to present the views of the Governing Council after seeking advice on the issue from Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh.

The opposition also questioned the appointment of a non-Muslim as administrator of the Delhi Waqf board, arguing that the law did not allow it. A BJP member responded by saying that non-Muslims had also been appointed to the posts earlier.

The three members then moved to the center of the hall and shouted slogans for almost an hour before the Speaker relented and agreed to hear the Delhi government’s version on the issue through her representative.

Trinamool member Kalyan Banerjee, who was suspended from the committee for one day last week for unruly behavior, was briefly present at the meeting on Tuesday.

Emotions have often run high during the committee’s meetings, with opposition members accusing the chairman of inviting various organizations, including those working for Hindu causes, that have no interest in the Waqf issues, and the BJP members of their political accusing rivals of deliberately disrupting proceedings.
