Panchkula: Two suspects, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with Rs 82 lakh cyber fraud case committed in the name of digital arrest. The arrested suspects have been identified as Mukesh Kumar Singla And Suman Raniboth residents of Muktsar Sahib.
According to the information, a retired army officer had filed a complaint on October 15 after receiving a call from an unknown number. “He was threatened that a mobile number in his name would be used to carry out criminal activities. After that, cyber criminals called from different numbers posing as fake police sub-inspector, cyber cell officer and CBI officer and locked the victim and his wife in their house for about two days straight saying that they were under digital arrest “, the spokesperson said. a police officer.
“The cybercriminals did not let the victim go anywhere by staying in touch with him through video calls. Whenever the victim went to the bank to transfer money, they kept him constantly connected through a video call,” police said. After a complaint was received, a case was registered at the Cyber ​​Police Station. After further action in the case, the accused woman was arrested along with the suspect.
ACP Manpreet Singh Sudan said investigations so far have revealed that the amount obtained through cyber fraud was transferred to 77 bank accounts.
