After the briefing, Stefanik wrote to FBI Director Christopher Wray demanding answers by October 7.

The FBI then said it would provide answers during an in-person briefing, Stefanik said. They then promised written answers – which never came.

Stefanik has demanded to know when and how the FBI knew about the Trump campaign’s Iranian hack, when the FBI notified both campaigns of the hack, whether the FBI knew who was responsible for passing on the information to the media and the Biden or Harris campaigns and whether the FBI had used Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to listen in on conversations related to the hack.

The hackers had created fake email accounts and pretended to be current or former US officials and then duped them Trump campaign staff using spear phishing to click on emails allegedly containing malware.

“I am one of the longest-serving members of the House Intelligence Committee. If the FBI won’t answer questions, it’s because you discovered something and they’re hiding something. They are corrupt to the core.”

Stefanik also raised the issue in an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal.

“It is my duty to share with the American people what the FBI has failed to answer – and, in my opinion, is deliberately covering up – about Iranian influence in the 2024 presidential election.”
