(Society)The number of underage victims of digital sexual crimes has increased 22 times in the past six years.

Over the past six years, the number of child victims linked to “digital sex crimes,” such as the production and distribution of illegal recordings such as deepfake sex exploitation, has increased more than 22 times.

According to the data received from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family by Representative Jeon Jin-sook of the Democratic Party of Korea, member of the Women and Family Committee of the National Assembly, the number of victims of digital sex crimes under their teenage years has increased from 111 in 2018 to 2,476 as of September this year.

Compared to the increase in the total number of victims of digital sex crimes from 1,315 to 9,032 in the same period, the increase was much sharper.

Furthermore, 22.3% of the 41,321 victims of digital sex crimes were younger than teenagers. Looking at the relationship between the perpetrator and the victim of

41.6% of cases were ‘relationship unknown’ where the perpetrator could not be identified.
