Jiang Zaidong, China’s ambassador to Islamabad, responded to the “repeated attacks on Chinese citizens” in Pakistan and called for increased security measures to protect Chinese personnel and institutions in the country.

Pakistani media reported that Ambassador Jiang made these comments on Tuesday, October 29, while addressing an international conference organized by the Pakistan-China Institute (PCI) in Islamabad.

Ambassador Jiang emphasized that both countries can jointly combat terrorists targeting Chinese nationals.

He referred to several armed attacks in Pakistan, including incidents in March and October, that specifically targeted Chinese citizens and engineers working in the country.

The ambassador said: “These repeated attacks are unacceptable to China, and we hope that the Pakistani side will ensure the safety of Chinese citizens working in Pakistan.”

Reports indicate that due to the $60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), thousands of Chinese personnel are working in various projects across Pakistan.

The ongoing attacks on Chinese nationals in Pakistan raise serious concerns about the safety of foreign workers involved in critical infrastructure projects. The repeated attacks not only threaten bilateral ties but also jeopardize the ongoing economic cooperation under CPEC.

Ensuring the safety of Chinese personnel is critical to maintaining strong ties between China and Pakistan. Both countries must prioritize security and counter-terrorism efforts to protect foreign workers and preserve their shared economic interests.
