Sour beer at Ashley’s isn’t as scary as it seems

ANN ARBOR, MI – We all know someone who just doesn’t like beer, but the Kiwi Whip Fruited Sour beer at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor defies what you think a beer can taste like, focusing on tart and creamy flavors.

Sour is at the top of my favorite beers. There is something creative about flipping the flavor that beer is “supposed” to have on its head. I usually get these in the summer, but when I saw Ashley’s serving fluorescent green sours I had to check it out.

We visited town for a Friday night showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Michigan Theater – not in the back row. While waiting for friends to gather, we found ourselves at Ashley’s for a pre-show drink.

We couldn’t resist the green, slimy glow of the Kiwi Whip Fruited Sour. It looked like something straight out of Reanimator, and I had to taste it. The Kiwi notes shine with a sharp front that coats the tongue with delicious acidity.

If this were only brewed with kiwis, your lips might pucker, but when combined with vanilla soft serve, the beer becomes rounder and noticeably sweet and creamy. The beer tastes like a candy from my childhood, but I can’t put my finger on it.

The mix of sour and creamy makes this beer super unique and a perfect sweet treat for an adult Halloween night on the town. Don’t be afraid to try this Kiwi Pear Sour at Ashley’s, especially if you’re looking for something new on Halloween night.
