John Mayer reveals how he honors his late friend Bob Saget every day

Bob Saget had a heart for life, and John Mayer remembers that fondly.

After the “Full House” stars tragic death at the age of 65 in 2022, the 47-year-old musician lost a good friend, but he continues to live by the words and actions that the late comedian taught him.

“Being there for other people,” Mayer told The Post exclusively during the Scleroderma Research Foundation‘Cool Comedy • Hot Cuisine’ event in LA on Tuesday. “Knowing when to remind someone that their problems aren’t as bad as they might think by joking about them and making them laugh.”

“I think Bob was one of those rare people who could push against those walls of rules,” the artist continued. “He could press them and move them and he really made people happy when he did that, and sometimes I have to remember that it’s okay to bring your favorite soft drink that the (place) doesn’t offer with you in your pockets to the restaurant, which I did after he died.

“I said, ‘I really want Spindrift in this restaurant, and they don’t have it, so I’m bringing it.’ And I thought, ‘Can I get a glass for the two Spindrifts I brought?’ And I thought that was bad Bob, because he broke customs very bravely, and people loved him more for that.

And Mayer keeps Saget’s memory alive by telling stories about the beloved actor.

“I like to tell people there’s one intersection — and I know you’re the New York Post, but let’s put Beverly Hills front and center here,” the singer recalled. “There’s one intersection right next to the hotel in Beverly Hills that has six lanes and Bob said the rule is the nicest car goes first.”

“And every time I drive through that intersection and there’s someone in the car with me, I tell the story. I become very proud and feel a great bond with Bob when I can tell stories about my old friend Bob.”

Another way Mayer is honoring Saget is by showing up and supporting the work the fallen star began many years ago with the Scleroderma Research Foundation.

“Even continuing with these types of events,” he noted. “This is a way for everyone to miss him together.”

With Saget three year anniversary of death Mayer quickly closed in and shed light on how he deals with his grief.

“Have fun remembering him.” he shared. “I like it when he comes to life through my memory. I like to tell people about my friend Bob.”

“Look, the right answer is something really nasty that only he could come up with,” Mayer teased. “So I love you, Bob. What am I saying? Give me some divine inspiration to end my career here on the microphone, because I’m no Bob Saget!

All jokes aside, the late actor had an important message for his loved ones.

“He always wanted to take care of yourself,” Mayer says. “When I was working really hard and on the road and everyone was saying, ‘This is really cool that you’re playing all these different shows and these different bands,’ Bob’s biggest concern is that I was taking such good care of myself.” With him in mind, I will continue to take care of myself.”

As Mayer put it, Saget was “deeply, deeply sensitive.”

The stand up died suddenly on January 9, 2022 at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida. His autopsy determined his death was an accident caused by blunt head traumaresulting in a cerebral hemorrhage.

Are widow, Kelly Rizzoorganized the event together with Mayer and told the Post what she learned from the tragedy.

“We really have no idea when it will be taken away from us immediately,” the blogger said. “Tell your loved ones that you love them. Hug them. Say it often. Say it as often as you can.”
