Michigan State’s Jordan Hall looks ahead to Indiana

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State’s linebacker room will have a next-man-up approach in the Spartans’ matchup with No. 13 Indiana on Saturday.

Their top player, Jordan Turner, will miss the first half of the game as part of his punishment for his targeting penalty against Michigan last weekend.

One of the players who needs to step up is second-year linebacker Jordan Hall. He and the rest of Michigan State’s front seven will have to win the battle in the trenches for the Spartans to be successful in a major Indiana offense.

Hall addressed the media on Wednesday and discussed Hall’s absence, the threat Indiana poses and more.

Below is a transcript of Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith’s opening statement from his press aide on Monday:

Smith: “As always, quickly looking back at the tape, actually opportunities in all three phases, but at the same time missed opportunities. And offensively it cost us. Production early with the ball, came just before the red zone, and then, of course , with the ball at the end of the game, there were opportunities. I thought we did some good things, making it physical in the run game, great play, catching and executing But when you score 17, you have the opportunity to do more, you have to do it. Defensively, physically, well tackled. I thought we did well against the run game, outside just – the quarterback run game hurt us a little bit missed assignments there that caught up to us. Was proud of some of the defensive response on the short field, tried the onside kick thing and got a three-and-out when we needed it late to get the ball back to get it. to get a chance. But there were still no special teams, not our best execution. Not only the offside kick, with the fair catch, caused a bad field position. I thought we responded offensively when we started at the five-meter line and scored. Just some missed opportunities in an emotional, important match. I think it kind of crystallized for me on Saturday night. When I led into it, I knew it was an important rivalry, emotion and going. But now that we’re actually experiencing it for the first time, that thing is different, that thing is important, and that’s why it’s so frustrating to feel like we could have done a few things better. But you have to move on to the next week and all that, but you won’t forget, after experiencing that sucker, I won’t forget that thing. But we have to move on to a big opponent. One of the most popular teams in the country. Do it in all three phases. Look at Indiana, offensively, by doing some things you can score points in bunches. Defensively there were some good players around. A solid plan, and you won’t win every game by accident. One of the most popular teams in the country, so we will have to recharge and regroup. I’m excited to return to Spartan Stadium for a great environment and another opportunity to move forward.”
