Josie Sarff’s stop and Dylan McInroy’s goal in PKs give Camp Hill its third straight District 3 title

As the Camp Hill girls soccer team stood on the sidelines waiting for a banquet of gold, Dylan McInroy let out a joyful exclamation.

“We are dawgs!”

If anyone had the right to shout that, it was McInroy, whose penalty kick goal Wednesday night in Linglestown clinched a 3-2 (PK) victory over Lancaster Mennonite, giving the program its third consecutive District 3 1A title.

Here’s how the Lions did it.

The stars

McInroy and Della Hawkins both scored goals in regulation for Camp Hill, while both also converted penalties.

Cece Beem also had a great evening in midfield.

Marissa McGuire and Regan Parno also provided assists.

Adalyn and Avery King both scored goals for Lancaster Mennonite.

Game-decisive moments

Initially it didn’t look like this match would last longer than 80 minutes.

Hawkins would get things going with a goal from a McGuire feed in the 14th minute, while McInroy headed in a feed from Parno later in the half.

Mennonite would get back into the game, scoring before halftime with an Avery King laser and then tying the game on an Adalyn King penalty in the second.

After an exhausting and contentious regulation and two overtime periods, with both teams visibly fighting fatigue, the teams headed to penalties.

Camp Hill Josie Sarff kicked things off on the first attempt, snaring Adalyn King to the right. Della Hawkins would follow with a score at right back.

The two teams would trade goals over the next two rounds, with Leah Friesen and Avery King scoring for LM and Kate Chaplin and Regan Parno for Camp Hill.

Macie Boyd would score for Mennonite to keep them alive in the fourth round. But McInroy, coming to the plate, went to right and succeeded, meaning Camp Hill needed just one stop to win the game.

Charlotte Buckwalter’s attempt narrowly missed, hitting the post in the direction Sarff dived, and Camp Hill would be crowned champions.

They said it

“It feels so good to know that all the work we did last summer is now paying off. We achieve results. It feels so good to see everyone on our team succeed. We were not led by one person, everyone in our team did their best and gave us the victory.” -Camp Hill’s Dylan McInroy on his battle to win the district on penalty kick

“It’s absolutely amazing. We’ve worked so hard. Practicing horsepower. I really learned how to read people and how they are (shooting), their positioning and all that. It just felt great, especially to start with a save, which is great.” – Camp Hill’s Josie Sarff on the emotions of her big penalty kick save

“Great (rewarding) because we followed all the post-season PK training. We had a hard time there. We did some cool down runs so we can simulate heavy legs. I told them we needed one rescue. Our goalkeeper was looking forward to it. She had a great game today and they just went after it and took it.” – Camp Hill head coach Ryan Polly on the determination his team showed in the win
