Orlando leaders call for pedestrian safety using ‘blind experience’

Local officials are raising awareness about pedestrian safety as traffic continues to rush through city streets.

It was called the “blind experience,” and just like it sounds, people wore blindfolds while being guided by a partner to see what it was like to navigate crosswalks without vision.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said he’s done this a few times and it’s scary.

“When you hear cars whizzing 30 to 60 kilometers per hour and you don’t know what’s out there… today is the day to raise awareness about that and also refocus our efforts so that we are inclusive, and everyone can enjoy their pedestrian experience,” said Mayor Verver.

The statement reflects growing concerns about traffic safety and inclusivity in Orlando’s walkable areas.
