Locked up in Shropshire: ‘Paranoid’ domestic abuser, knifemen and drug dealers among local criminals jailed

Shrewsbury Crown Court and other justice centers have had a busy few weeks, with a variety of offenders ending up in the dock to face trial.

Sadist Philip Mutch, 40, formerly of Shrewsbury but most recently of Capern Grove, Birmingham, was jailed on Friday after a court was told of his sickening attacks on a former partnerincluding force-feeding her cigarette butts.

The violent attacks took place over three years – including while the woman, who lived in Shrewsbury, was pregnant.

Mutch was described as “obsessed with the idea that his partner had been unfaithful”.

He pleaded guilty to five charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one charge of controlling or coercive controlling behaviour, and was locked up for 30 months.
