South Africa pacer Rabada’s five wickets will put Bangladesh in early trouble on Thursday

CHATTOGRAM, Bangladesh (AP) — Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada claimed 5-37 as South Africa left Bangladesh at a tough 137-8 at lunch on Day 3 of the second and final cricket Test on Thursday.

Rabada’s fiery spell in the morning session took Bangladesh back to 48-8 but Mominul Haque came up with some resistance to help the side go past the 100-run mark.

In the first break of the day, Mominul batted on 74 and Taijul Islam on 18 after sharing 89 runs for the ninth wicket. Bangladesh were still trailing by 438 runs and needed another 339 runs to prevent the follow-on and get South Africa back into bat.

South Africa declared its first innings 575-6 after three batters hit the first centuries.

Rabada struck at just fourth of the day when Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto tentatively poked a long delivery to Verriynne for 9. In the next over, Dane Paterson dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim for duck with a longer delivery.

After scoring an epic 191 against Pakistan, Mushfiqur Rahim had played nine innings without any half-century.

The situation went from bad to worse when Rabada struck twice and got the better of Mehidy Hasan and Mahidul Islam in three deliveries. Mehidy pushed a delivery half-heartedly out to get out for 1, while Mahidul was out for duck on debut, having offered no shot against a delivery that deflected sharply.

However, Mominul proved that the pitch is still good to bat on as he played his shots effortlessly. He hit eight fours and one six in 97 balls.

Bangladesh lost by seven wickets on the first test.
