Clinton says it’s OK to vote for Harris even though Trump’s economy was ‘better’

Former President Bill Clinton encouraged Michigan voters to show their support for Vice President Kamala Harris even if they think the economy was better under former President Donald Trump.

“I want to make three quick points,” Clinton told voters Wednesday at a rally for Harris in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. “You did a pretty good job when I was president, and I think I’m entitled to my opinion about who would be the best. Second, I don’t think it’s right to say that people should vote for Donald Trump because the economy is bad. better…I don’t think so.”

Clinton’s comments come as both the Trump and Harris campaigns scramble to reach as many voters as possible with less than a week to go before Election Day, especially in swing states like Michiganwhere polls show a razor-thin race between the two candidates.

According to the Real Clear Politics polling average, Harris currently has a slim 0.4 point lead over Trump in Michigan, while the latest Fox News Power Rankings consider the state a gamble.

Clinton’s comments were not his first gaffe as he campaigned for Harris, just weeks after the former president said voters in Georgia an immigrant who allegedly killed Georgia native Laken Riley was not properly vetted before being allowed into the country.

“You had a case in Georgia not too long ago, right? They made an ad about it. A young woman who was murdered by an immigrant,” Clinton said at the time. “Yes, if they had all been properly vetted, that probably wouldn’t have happened.”

Despite that blunder, the campaign brought Clinton to the critical swing state of Michigan to team up with Democratic Michigan for Harris Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Tudor Dixon, a Republican running for governor against Whitmer in 2022, argued that Clinton was simply telling “the truth” during the Michigan event.

“Bill Clinton told the truth again when he admitted that the economy is better under President Trump. Normal people who buy groceries or school supplies know that to be true,” Dixon told Fox News Digital. ‘I’m starting to wonder if he’s secretly one surrogate for the Trump campaign.”

Nevertheless, Clinton said he was in Michigan to “enthusiastically” support Harris, arguing that “Kamala Harris will be a better president than Donald Trump.”

“I want to ensure the American dream for my grandchildren,” Clinton said. “I don’t want my ten-year-old granddaughter to do that have fewer freedoms than her 44-year-old mother.”

The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
