Happy November, South Florida!

Hopefully everyone had a nice week and a nice Halloween!. The last days of October were quite windy for South Florida, which is common for this time of year. An extensive area of high pressure parked itself over the Mid-Atlantic states, bringing strong easterly to northeasterly winds across the region all week. And while wind speeds began to decrease somewhat towards the end of the week, it was still breezy across South Florida this morning with a few spotty showers throughout the region.

Today, South Florida can expect a similar weather pattern to what we experienced yesterday on Halloween. Windy to breezy conditions are possible at times with a mix of solar clouds. The strong wind occasionally causes some light clouds, but can also bring some gusty showers during the day. The overall chance of showers should be slightly lower than what we saw yesterday, but the chance remains. Afternoon high temperatures will again remain typical in the mid 80s.

Looking ahead, South Florida cannot expect a major change in the forecast in the near future. Breezy (sometimes windy) to gusty conditions will continue this coming weekend and throughout next week! And while South Florida can’t expect any significant change in our wind speeds, afternoon high temperatures will hold steady in the mid-80s each day, which is typical for this time of year. Occasionally pockets of moisture will reach South Florida, which could bring a few showers our way at times. It looks like the first week of November will be just as windy as the last last days of October!

A quick check of the tropics,… we are now looking at three different areas for possible development in the coming days. Area No. 1 in the North Atlantic showed signs of organization as it moved east toward the Azores. However, this morning it didn’t look as organized as yesterday. Some development may be possible in the next few days, but the system will have a small window to develop. Closer to home, we find area #2 near the greater Antilles, where widespread cloud and showers develop near the islands. This system is predicted to be absorbed by another area we are monitoring not far away. And that brings us to area #3 in the Caribbean. Nothing has formed there yet, but a broad area of low pressure is forecast to develop over the next few days and eventually drift north and northwest over the weekend and early next week. At that point, a tropical depression may actually form in the Caribbean. At this time, area #3 in the Caribbean is expected to absorb area #2 as it is the smaller system. South Florida and all islands should continue to monitor the progress of all areas in the Atlantic and Caribbean.

Enjoy a wonderful weekend!
