“The Crown Jewels of Oregon Indie” have just released their first album in eight years – In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain – after a distinct period of musical hiatus and personal reflection. Critically acclaimed indie folk band Blind Pilot brings their dynamic sound to Santa Barbara’s own Lobero Theater. Performing on November 16th at 7:30 PM, they are excited to share their new release with Santa Barbara’s vibrant indie folk fanbase.

After releasing several albums and touring the Pacific Northwest, the group experienced a collective slump in creative production. Bandleader Israel Nebeker faced personal writer’s block and took a sabbatical from musical endeavors for several years. Band members Ryan Dobrowski, Kati Claborn and Luke Ydstie followed suit; each embarked on a personal journey to ultimately rediscover their sound as a group.

Nebeker went soul searching in Scandinavia, hoping to reconcile his identity with his roots in the nomadic Sámi community. A ceremonial drumming ceremony and extensive discussions with a humanitarian group in Mexico City sparked the rebirth of Nebeker’s career.

His decision to return to songwriting inspired him to pursue a different approach to his craft by setting the group a goal of writing an entire album in one month. This methodical shift promoted positive group chemistry and collaboration, ultimately re-creating the band’s cohesive sound.

This new album reflects the band’s thoughtful introspections during their hiatus. They recently performed their new music on CBS Saturday Morning Sessions and are excited to continue celebrating their return to music in Santa Barbara.
