People can’t help but cry over this non-binary student’s question to Donald Trump

The presidential election is just around the corner, so as most news networks do around this time, MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle interviewed students to ask who they’re voting for and why.

Her stock exchange featuring a Rutgers University student who identifies as non-binary, has gone viral on TikTok with nearly 15 million views.

“If you were to ask Vice President Harris one question, what would it be?” she asked.

The student responded, “I think I would ask her, ‘How soon do you think we can get it.’ Equality Act passed?'”

Ruhle then asked the same student, “What about Donald Trump?” The student replied, “I would ask him, ‘Do you see me as a human being?'”

“Oh.” Ruhle responded. There was a pause as she seemed to hold back tears before whispering to the student, “I’m sorry.”

The comments on the post were incredibly supportive of the student. This person said, “No one deserves to feel this way, no matter who they are, you are so much more than human.”

This person affirmed that the student is “beautiful, worthy, needed, someone’s child, friend, coworker, leader, and you are LOVED!!”

Many people pointed out the stark contrast between the student’s questions to the two candidates. One person said: “The fact that those questions are so far apart tells you exactly who you’re voting for.”

And finally, this person identified with the anchor’s emotional response to the student’s response. “It shows how many of us feel like we’re being punched in the gut, and there’s nothing we can do about it except apologize for it happening.”
