I’ve been in Washington DC for almost 24 hours and there are few signs that one of America’s most important presidential elections ever is just around the corner.

There aren’t many campaign signs – so far I’ve only seen one urging people to vote.

This is hardcore Democratic territory, with all polls suggesting Kamala Harris is a clear winner here.

A security guard at Union Station told me he didn’t vote at all in the election, saying he didn’t like Ms. Harris or Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, a taxi driver told me that Trump was the only way forward.

He said there were “no wars” under the former president’s rule and that was one of his reasons.

In souvenir shops, Harris and Trump’s campaign products are displayed next to each other – their stock is almost identically stocked.

Hats, socks, t-shirts, chocolate, mugs, shot glasses and soap are just some of the items brandishing their faces and mottos.

I wonder whose merchandise is likely to sell out first?
