Amazing Grace Restaurant, located in downtown Vicksburg on Washington Street, opened on August 4. The restaurant is co-owned by husband and wife team Anthony and Tabatha Collins.

“My wife is an entrepreneurial enthusiast, I’ll call it, because she likes to take risks and try something new,” Anthony said. “So we took the opportunity to try to make this work, and it worked well.”

The establishment specializes in soul food and has a different special dish every day.

When asked what his favorite dish is that the restaurant serves, Collins said, “Mine is the special for today, it’s the fish with the crawfish étouffée over rice.”

The Collins are also in the childcare business and own All My Children next door to the restaurant. When the former Gumbo Pot location opened, they saw an opportunity.

Anthony said their food is something everyone can enjoy.

“Everyone. I don’t have anyone specific (in mind),” he said. “We just wanted to bring something different to the city.”

Anthony is not from Vicksburg, but has lived in the River City for approximately 27 years. He said part of the reason he and his wife started the restaurant was for their children.

“(We are) very, very excited. And above all, we try to do something to (build) that generational wealth. We have two children and what we do is prepare everything,” he said. “My daughter, she works here now, and she works here and at the daycare, to give her something to fall back on, and then the grandchildren.”

Anthony said the hard work is paying off.

“We’ve been getting a lot of customers lately. It’s going better than planned, I can tell you that,” he said. “I haven’t budgeted it to get rich or anything like that, but it’s going well.”

The restaurant is located at 2001 Washington St. and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We just want people to come by, check us out, give us a chance and see what we’re all about,” Anthony said.
