Omari Cassell of Newton arrested in connection with stabbing at bus stop

A Newton teen was arrested Friday for his alleged role in a stabbing at a Watertown bus stop that sent a man to the hospital last month, prosecutors said.

Omari Cassell, 18, turned herself in to Watertown police on Friday and is the second teen charged in connection with the Oct. 22 attack, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office said in a statement.

Cassell is charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife), assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) and conspiracy, Ryan’s office said.

He was arraigned Friday in Waltham District Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges, court records show. He was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Wednesday. Two attorneys representing Cassell declined to comment when reached by phone Friday.

The other teen, Michael McGhee, 19, of Boston, was arrested Oct. 25 and charged with the same charges, Ryan’s office said. He was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Wednesday. His lawyer could not immediately be reached on Friday.

Prosecutors said police received several 911 calls on Oct. 22 around 5:15 p.m. for a report of a disturbance at the bus stop near Mt. Auburn and Boylston. Police found the victim had injuries to his face and head, as well as two lacerations on his back that were “consistent with stab wounds,” according to Ryan’s office.

The man told investigators he was waiting for a bus when he saw a car pass him several times before stopping around the corner. He said three men wearing masks got out of the car and asked him where from before allegedly starting to punch and kick him, prosecutors said.

One of the masked men allegedly stabbed the man in the back twice with a knife during the attack, Ryan’s office said. After about two minutes, the three masked men got back into the car and drove away, the statement said.

The victim was treated and released from a local hospital, Ryan’s office said.

The attack remains under investigation and authorities have asked anyone with information to call Watertown police at 617-972-6500.
