Dodgers didn’t have to play after Fat Joe

Dodgers didn’t have to play after Fat Joe

Kiké Hernandez particularly trolled Fat Joe during the Dodgers’ championship celebration on Friday afternoon.

Fat Joe, a native of the Bronx and one of New York City’s most prominent artists over the past thirty years, performed prior to the Yankees’ World Series Game 3 loss.

The loss came in the first of three games at Yankee Stadium and put the Pinstripes in a 3-0 hole with the threat of a sweep.

Hernandez, the Dodgers’ utility man, says Fat Joe is to blame… or thanks.

“Ice Cube came out in Game 2, and because of his performance we didn’t have to play the game, we already won it,” Hernandez said during the climax of the World Series parade at Dodger Stadium. “Then we go to New York, and this guy used to be fat and now he’s not fat anymore. His name is Joe. He came out and sang, and we didn’t have to play anymore because after that performance we had already won.”

Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly even went so far as to call it the “Fat Joe curse.”

The smack talk closes out a week where Hernandez also took aim at Olympic gold medal-winning sprinter Noah Lyles.

“We’re here, World Series champions – fuck off, Noah Lyles,” he said, addressing the sprinter who previously claimed NBA champions last summer weren’t real world champions.

Maybe Hernandez was just trying to get ahead of it.

Earlier this week Chris Russo went off on both Fat Joe and Ice Cube performance during the World Series, so Hernandez wasn’t the only one in his shadow.

In the World Series, Hernandez hit .278, including a triple, and remained one of the team’s most consistent playoff performers as he faced the Mets in the NLCS.

In that series against the Amazin’s, Hernandez hit .292, recording a home run and four RBIs.

By defeating the Yankees in a five-game gentleman’s sweep, the Dodgers earned their first World Series since 2020 and their second since 1988.
