Readers are seeing red about Sununu’s support of Trump

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has claimed he will vote for Donald Trump for president because, well, he’s a Republican (“Why I Choose the Republican Ticket” Advice, November 1). This is the sum and substance of Sununu’s in-depth analysis of a vote that could very well determine the future of our democracy. Nowhere in his op-ed does he mention that his favorite candidate, for the first time in our history, attempted to disrupt the transfer of presidential power by force. This point must be central to any discussion of Trump’s suitability for this elected office.

Sununu’s opinions all share a common thread: overlooking the obvious (for example, deficits tend to increase under Republican administrations) while emphasizing such superficial talking points that are at once infuriating and laughable are.

I voted for Chris Sununu every time he was elected because I thought he was a great governor, but also an honest and intelligent one. I will never support him again.

He has made sharp comments about Donald Trump in the past and continued to do so while campaigning for Nikki Haley in the Republican primaries. Then she fell out, and Sununu lost his spine and kissed the ring of the worst human on earth. I have no respect for him now that he’s just another member of the Trump cult.

Sununu has forgotten that many of us in New Hampshire would vote for a decent Republican, but Trump is in no way decent, and he is in no way what I would call a Republican.

At first I was miffed that the Globe published Chris Sununu’s op-ed, “Why I’m Voting the Republican Party,” but now I’m glad. It succinctly shows the moral blindness of GOP leaders who should know better. Sununu blithely omits these facts: Donald Trump is an insurrectionist who led a failed coup against his own government. He’s a convicted felon. A jury found him guilty of sexual abuse. He is a shameless liar who has spread vile conspiracy theories that have resulted in… death threats against defenseless election workers And Employees of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He was deposed twice. Apparently he admires Hitler.

Scot Lehigh’s great column in the same edition, “Choose democracy, decency and reason or division, rumor and resentment,” destroys any rationale for Trump, who is simply evil – and increasingly deranged.
