How AI can summarize a YouTube video for you

We may all have a friend – or be that friend – whose extended stories could use a summary to capture the most important parts of them before people get impatient and dream of skipping through them.

This is true in the digital world Eighty is designed for. It’s one artificial intelligence tools made like one Google Chrome desktop extension and an app for the iPhone And Android. Eightify summarizes YouTube videos to save viewers time, especially when people are navigating longer videos or lengthy forms of educational content.

Launched in 2022 by Dmytro TymoshenkoEightify can extract digestible key points and highlights from video content. After a seven-day free trial, it costs $5 per month (or $60 for the year). Its competitors include TLDR YouTube And VidSummarywhich offer similar AI-powered features for free, but with their own limitations and restrictions.

How to use Eightify to split videos

Step 1: You’ll need an account to access Eightify’s seven-day trial. (No credit card required for once.) Then paste a YouTube link into the chat box so Eightify’s AI tool can summarize the video. Eightify provides a guide for users who are unsure about the process.

Step 2: Wait a few seconds while the video insights and summary are generated. The Insights button allows you to view an overview of the video in different tones and sizes. The focus buttons let you adjust the text and choose from options such as Insightful, Funny, Active and Controversial. There is also an option to change the format from a list to a question-and-answer session, and to select a length: short, more detailed or automatic.

Step 3: The summary button provides an overview of the video, followed by a more detailed overview, aligned with timestamps. The insight and summary features both use emojis to help organize and categorize material.

Step 4: Finally, three other buttons allow you to change settings, copy text, or download (or share) the information provided.

Both the mobile and desktop versions of Eightify offer a manageable user experience, and as an AI tool it’s one of the easiest to navigate – thankfully there’s not a steep learning curve. Although several changes have been made to the tool’s sections, there are no extra frills or pop-ups that take away from its functionality.

Should You Use Eightify to Summarize Your Videos?

I can’t say I would stick with Eightify for $60 a year when there are free options like the YouTube summary of Glaspwill produce similar results, but Eightify’s ability to customize information for large amounts of content could be a selling point. Personally, I’d like to see Eightify partner with companies and educational institutions as part of a perk for employees or students. This could limit costs while targeting large groups of customers.

Outside of professional and educational environments – such as the critically acclaimed Chicken Shop Date YouTube video I’ve always tested it: the insights and summary buttons within Eightify may provide better insights than what you would find on social media. (Plus, I’ve never seen X provide actionable insights that could double as homework for self-development.)

So maybe there’s room for Eightify in your chain of desktop extensions or application folders. The answer comes down to personal needs, frequency and reason for use – and whether another subscription you might forget you’re paying for is worth it.
