Surrey RCMP are warning of a series of burglaries in the south of the city

Police in Surrey say they are investigating a series of home burglaries targeting ‘large-scale homes’ in the South Surrey, Panorama Ridge and Crescent Beach areas.

While police have not specified how many incidents occurred, investigators say the thefts are related to similar incidents in other jurisdictions in the Lower Mainland.

The suspects appear to work in a team of three, Surrey RCMP said in a news release Friday, adding that they typically strike between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. when homes are empty, and usually break in by smashing the glass of a patio door.

Once inside, the thieves mainly steal “valuable items” such as jewelry and wallets, but also cash, police said.

“Investigators believe the thieves are eyeing property before striking,” said Sgt. Tammy Lobb, in the release.

“That’s why we encourage residents to keep their homes safe, look out for each other as neighbors and call police to report any suspicious activity or suspicious persons.”

Police have not released any photos of the suspects, but have released descriptions of them and their clothing.

According to the police, one suspect is 1.80 meters tall and ‘heavy built’. Another is 6 feet tall and “muscular,” while the third is 6 feet tall and “slim.”

Police did not share details about their skin, hair or eye colors, but said all three were seen wearing hoodies, dark-colored sweatpants and balaclavas.

“All three suspects tightened the cords of their hoodies around their balaclavas to conceal their facial features,” police said in the news release.

Mounties said they held a block watch meeting this week and plan to hold another one “soon.” Residents of the affected neighborhoods may also see an increased police presence in the coming days.

Anyone with information about the burglaries should call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, police said.
