Heat wave breaks out with snow and thunderstorm warnings for Tuesday

A heat wave that has gripped the country this weekend will disappear on Tuesday with cold and rainy weather.

Warnings have even been issued for snow in the Eastern Cape and thunderstorms in other provinces.

Weather warnings, Tuesday, November 5

The SA Weather Service (Saws) has issued a yellow Level 2 warning in its latest regional weather forecast for disruptive snow causing localized traffic disruptions and localized livestock losses over the northern and central highland areas of the Eastern Cape.

It issued a level 4 yellow warning for disruptive rain that led to flooding of settlements, roads and property damage along the Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape and over south-eastern parts of KwaZulu Natal.

A level 1 yellow warning was issued for disruptive rain leading to flooding of settlements, roads and property damage in places over eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

Saws has issued a level 2 yellow warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in damage or loss to infrastructure, settlements and major travel disruptions. Disruptions to municipal and other essential services are expected over the Mpumalanga highveld.

It also issued a level 2 yellow warning for damaging winds resulting in disruption to coastal activities between Port Edward and Kosi Bay.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the Limpopo Valley, Bushveld and south-central parts of Limpopo, as well as in the far eastern parts of the North West Province.

Advice

Very cold conditions are expected in the southwestern parts of KwaZulu Natal. 1.

Provincial weather forecast, Tuesday, November 5

Gauteng:

Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thunderstorms.

The expected UVB sunscreen index: High.

Mpumalanga:

Cloudy over the Lowveld in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Limpopo:

Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Northwest Province:

Fine, windy and warm to hot, but partly cloudy with some showers and thunderstorms in the east.

Free State:

Partly cloudy, breezy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the east, along the border with Lesotho and in the far south.

Northern Cape:

Fine, breezy and cool to warm, but partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far south-east where cold conditions are expected.

The wind along the coast is fresh to strong from a southerly to southeasterly direction, but sometimes very strong in the afternoon.

Western Cape:

Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain on the south coast, but scattered along the far eastern parts of the south coast, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to cool.

Things are going well in the far western parts. The wind along the coast is fresh to strong from a southerly to southeasterly direction, but sometimes very strong along the southwestern coastline.

The expected UVB sunscreen index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape (western half):

Cloudy and cold with light rain and showers, but scattered along the coast and adjacent inland areas.

The wind along the coast is moderate to fresh from a southeasterly direction.

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

Very cold in places north of Winterberg, otherwise cloudy and cold with rain and scattered showers, but widespread along the Wild Coast. Snow is expected over the high mountains.

The wind along the coast is moderately south-westerly and becomes moderately south-easterly in the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal:

Cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thunderstorms, but scattered in the north.

It gets cold in the southwest. The wind along the coast is moderate to fresh from the south to southwest and becomes almost stormy in the evening.
