Man charged with armed robbery of Wells Fargo ATM on 30th Street – Boulder Daily Camera

A man accused of robbing another man at a Wells Fargo ATM on 30th Street last week was arrested Monday.

Garret Kent Loter, 23, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery.

He is being held on a $50,000 bond and will be arraigned on Tuesday, according to court records.

According to an affidavit, a man, later identified as Loter, approached another man at the Wells Fargo ATM at 3307 30th St. on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m., wearing a black mask and hood while holding what is believed to be a Palmetto State Armory Dagger 9. mm pistol.

The man later told officers that he was approached by Loter when he tried to deposit money at the ATM.

According to the affidavit, the man had just finished work and wanted to deposit his tips, but a family member said it was unsafe for him to deposit money alone at an ATM, so they drove him from home to help him.

As he was depositing his tips, the suspect approached him, brandished a firearm and demanded the man give him all his money. Surveillance footage showed tattoos on the armed man’s right middle and ring fingers, according to the affidavit.

The man told police he tried to end his transaction and retrieve his card from the machine before Loter walked over, but he was unable to do so in time.

The man also told officers that he tried to withdraw $452 from his account about three times, but the ATM would not allow him.

He said that as he tried to withdraw the money, he kept apologizing to Loter and begging him not to hurt him, according to the affidavit. Loter then allegedly demanded that the man give him $200 and then pressed the buttons to withdraw that amount from the man’s account.

According to the affidavit, after taking the money, Loter ran north to the adjacent parking lot.

When interviewed by police at the scene, the man said he thought he was going to die and that he was willing to give Loter anything he wanted.

After a press release was sent out to identify the armed robbery suspect, a manager at the Safeway at 3325 28th Street told police he believed the man was Loter, who had been fired for theft about six months earlier.

He stated that he was confident the suspect was Loter based on his exposed tattoos on his fingers, glasses and overall appearance, according to the affidavit.

After officers looked up Loter on Instagram, they found a recent photo of him showing tattoos on his right and middle fingers with the numbers one and seven.

According to the affidavit, police later determined that the tattoos in his Instagram photo matched the suspect’s tattoos in the surveillance footage.

His booking photo was not immediately available.
