TL; DR

  • The latest Google System Update changelog mentions that the Play Store will display the initialization of the Play Games profile from different surfaces.
  • A Play Games profile makes it easier to log in to supported games and save and sync your progress.
  • Google has also made other search improvements and changes.

The Google Play Store And Google Play Services are two very crucial components of a great Android experience. Google keeps a changelog of new features it adds through automatic app updates, often categorized as a Google system update. Google will have done this before the end of October 2024 announced the following changes in different parts of the ecosystem:

  • Google Play Store v43.4 (28-10-2024):
    • (PC, Phone) With this new feature, you will see a pop-up message in various places in the Play Store that allows you to create your Play Games profile.
    • (PC, Phone) With this new feature you get improvements to prevent your security from being disabled due to misuse.
    • (Phone) Updates to the search suggestions user interface provide an improved search experience.
  • Google Play Services v24.42 (28-10-2024):
    • Account Management: (Phone) This new feature gives you more relevant search results and a dedicated section of related Help Center articles on the search page of your Google Account settings.
    • Wallet: (Phone) This new feature allows you to use the Pix payment method using the ‘Tap and Pix’ option in Google Wallet.

The highlight of these changes is that Google Wallet now supports Pix for Brazilian users. Plus, with the latest update to Google Play Services, you’ll get more relevant results when you search for queries in your Google account settings.

Worldwide, the Play Store will now ask users to create a Play Games profile in more places. A Google Play Games profile makes it easier to automatically log in to supported games so you can save your progress and earn achievements. It’s a good way to sync your progress status to the cloud for various supported games. So if something happens to your phone that causes data loss, you can restore your game progress without much thought.

Google also mentions “improvements to prevent your protection from being disabled due to exploitation,” which is a rather strange statement to make without any further context. We’ve reached out to Google for more information about this change. We’ll keep you posted if we hear from them.
