Two were held in Kangra with country-made weapons from Bihar

After the seizure of two country-made weapons sourced from Bihar from two youths in Kangra on Monday, police are probing the suspect’s possible links with criminal gangs in Punjab. This is the first case in the region in which local youth have been arrested for acquiring country-made weapons from Bihar.

SP Kangra, Shallini Agnihotri, while talking to The Tribune, said that police had received information about two persons coming from Delhi towards Kangra with a large quantity of illegal weapons. Based on this information, a team led by Kangra sub-divisional police officer Ankit Sharma was formed and a nakka was laid near Purana Kangra. All vehicles coming or going towards Kangra were checked throughout the night. Passengers who alighted from Delhi Volvo buses at Kangra bus stand were questioned. “Two individuals carrying backpacks could not provide satisfactory answers which aroused suspicion,” she said.

The SP further said that during the checking of both persons, two country-made pistols and empty magazines were recovered. A case was registered at Kangra police station under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, 1959.

The two suspects were identified as Sunshat Kumar of Shahpur in Kangra district and Ajaydeep Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur district of Punjab. “Both suspects have been arrested and are being interrogated,” the SP said.

The SP said a team had been formed to thoroughly investigate the case and investigate possible links of suspects with Punjab gangsters. “Anything about the case can only be said after further investigation,” she said.
