Oscar Bruzon reveals East Bengal’s recipe for success against Bashundhara Kings

East Bengal finally returned to victory after a long tenure.

East Bengal finally kicked off Oscar Bruzon era in the right way with a huge 4-0 win over Bashundhara Kings in the AFC Challenge League clash on Tuesday (October 29).

The likes of Dimitrios Diamantakos, Sauvik Chakraborty, Nandhakumar Sekar and Anwar Ali all scored in the first half to ensure a big win for the Red & Gold Brigade.

After the match, Oscar Bruzon was delighted to finally get his first win as East Bengal head coach and said: “We have been struggling for a long time, so this one is for the fans – especially those who were. here and those who continued to support the team during these difficult times. We will continue to fight to turn the situation around and today was the first step in what will be a bright future for the club.”

Oscar Bruzon was also very happy to see four different goalscorers in the match and believes his side were able to execute their tactics perfectly. Oscar Bruzon explains: “It is very important that a team has the ability to score with different players. Today we checked the central areas. Bashundhara had a lot of players there, it was good that we attracted them in the central areas and won the ball to attack through Nandha on the left wing.

“We have created a lot of openings on that side. We wanted numbers in the penalty area and the result of these attacks was that many different players came into the penalty area and fortunately today four different players got on the scoresheet,” said Oscar Bruzon.

Cleiton Silva’s performance in the second half

Even though some East Bengal fans were annoyed by Cleiton Silva’s performance in the second half, Oscar Bruzon is not pointing fingers at individuals and believes that the fitness issue is one that concerns the entire squad. He claimed: “We are going to talk about the fitness of the team, it is better to discuss group issues as well as personal issues.

“I want more from the players. Today it is easy to say that we won, but the reality is that we struggled physically in the last three games. I hope the performance will help increase my self-confidence. It’s a week-by-week process. If we play excellently for 45 minutes today, and if we can do that for 60 minutes in the next game, it will be better,” the gaffer finished.

East Bengal kept their dreams of reaching the knockout stages of the AFC Challenge League alive with the victory over the Bengal side. They are in second place in Group A and a win over Nejmeh FC in the final match will help them win the group and progress to the next round.
