Single woman takes part in race, but her mother has other priorities: ‘Good taste’

A single daughter participating in a prestigious road race told the story Newsweek how her spectator mother lined up eligible bachelors for her by listing their starting numbers.

Amelia Wright, 26, was completely unaware of her mother’s secret matchmaking mission as she raced around the sidewalks at the Falmouth Road Race in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Founded in 1973, the seven-mile coastline race attracts an international field of Olympians, elite and recreational runners, and Wright became hysterical when she realized mother Rebecca had been taking notes of all the cute male runners.

Wright, a musician, incorporated her mother’s efforts a clip on TikTokcomplete with a screenshot of the list of starting numbers her mother put together. The text overlay read: Congratulations if you made the list!!

She told me Newsweek that she and her mother had discussed the night before the race how difficult it was to meet someone organically, rather than in an organic way social media or dating apps.

“She saw all these young, eligible bachelors running past her, so she thought she should write down their bib numbers so I could find them later,” Wright said.

Her mother went the extra mile by checking on every runner wedding ringsand admitted that looking for them made her feel sick. “She wanted to make sure she was respectful,” Wright added.

Not wanting to invade anyone’s privacy, she and Amelia decided not to search the running numbers of the running apps, but let TikTok users do the matchmaking work.

Wright posted the video to TikTok under the name @ameliawrightmusic, which went viral on the platform and has been viewed more than six million times.

Hundreds of users flocked to comment on Wright’s post; Some of them asked how much Rebecca charges for her dating services.

“Your mom is doing the gentleman’s work here,” one user wrote, while another noted that she had “good taste.”

Wright also said that many people online call her mother the best woman a daughter could have.

Several runners even recognized their bib numbers in the video, which led to a few direct messages to the 26-year-old, though none led to in-person meetings.

Wright found it all hysterical and was not surprised that her mother went to such lengths to find her a partner, adding that she is a very creative and funny person.

“I think she was genuinely trying to be helpful in case there was a way for me to meet the guys she wrote up,” she said.

As her biggest fans, Wright said her mother in particular took it to the next level for this race. “Even though my dad didn’t know what she was up to, he went on board after he found out,” she said.
