Amazon lays down the law

Amazon’s full RTO mandate, which goes into effect in early 2025, has proven highly controversial among workers. Many have criticized the decision to burden employees with “unnecessary” travel time and commuting costs when remote working has been largely effective.

So far, the company has enforced the policy by requiring employees to visit regional offices, move to Seattle, where its headquarters are located, or “voluntarily resign.” It has also drawn attention to the commuting benefits, elderly care and subsidized parking rates it is offering to employees in a bid to take the sting out of its mandate.

Garman has expressed excitement about the coming change, while insisting that hybrid working is not conducive to collaboration. “If we really want to innovate on interesting products, I haven’t seen the opportunity to do that without being there in person,” he claimed.
