Police fire officer after tweeting about ‘dirty Zionists’

PC Ruby Begum, Metropolitan Police OfficerHe was dismissed from the police after being found guilty of making racist comments on social media, such as using the word “dirty Zionists”.

The Met Police announced on Wednesday that PC Begum had been dismissed following a misconduct hearing where she was found to have breached standards of professional conduct. Begum is now banned from serving as a police officer.

Begum, a Muslim officer in the Regional Support Group, was found guilty of gross misconduct; Begum denied the allegation, saying her comments amounted to simple abuse.

Evis Samupfonda, head of the inquiry, said: “(The posts) are derogatory and abusive and also show a lack of tolerance towards others who do not share the same characteristics as Ms Begum.

“Abuse will not be enough. (The tweets) are racist, discriminatory and intolerant. The panel’s decision is gross misconduct.”

Investigation

The research team reviewed nearly 25,000 tweets written by Begum before reaching a conclusion.

Begum admitted that she used discriminatory language jewish people and while non-Muslims served as special police officers.

This included the term “infidel”, which refers to non-believing Muslims, and posts saying people “must be stupid if they think there will be a 2-minute silence for 9/11”.

A 2014 post referenced the beheading of Alan Henning by “Jihadi John”: “You say Alan Henning is free. Remember our Muslim brothers imprisoned by the infidels.”

In another article in 2014, he wrote: “Israel has no borders. Scum, I can’t wait for the day they will be severely punished.”

Begüm, who joined the Met in 2014, posted “discriminatory and offensive comments” on X/Twitter between 2013 and 2019.

Begum was first suspended in 2022.

The original Met Police statement informing the public about PC Begum’s hearing (which has since been deleted) said she was under investigation not only for offensive Tweets but also for “PC Begum’s alleged failure to disclose her relationship with a female Jihadist”. He stated that he lived within the Islamic State caliphate in Syria and had approached the Investigation Unit with the alleged interest in the teachings of extremist preachers.

The Mail’s original disclosure in 2021 stated that Begum was communicating with a woman who fled Europe to live with ISIS and defended male terrorists’ use of Yazidi women as sex slaves.
