Charley Hull sensationally ends two-year drought in the final of the Aramco Team Series in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

England Charley Hull has ended a two-year winning drought in dominant fashion by winning the Aramco Team Series final individual title in Riyadh.
On a hot and windy Saturday, the 28-year-old put in a near-flawless display of golf, quickly chasing the two-shot lead of Slovenian Pia Babnik, who had started the day at 12 under par.
“I felt really sharp there and played steady all week,” said Hull, who posted the best round of the day in Riyadh, a six-under-par 66, to give her a three-shot victory in the tournament. “18 years younger is pretty good for three days,” she laughed.

Hull made a good start to the final round of her Aramco Team Series, opening with a birdie and adding three more on her front nine, thanks to an aggressive playing style that characterizes her game.

“I knew I had to get off to a fast start and that was my goal today,” she added. With 14 birdies, an eagle and no bogeys, her flawless front nine combined total of 16 under certainly was. “I love this golf course and I love coming to play golf in Saudi Arabia,” Hull enthuses. “I felt like I could have shot 59.”

For night leader, Slovenian Pia Babnik, the last day in Saudi Arabia was not so joyful. The 20-year-old, who shares the same golf coach as Hull, struggled to get her putter going and managed a final round one-over-par 73 to drop to third. Second place went to the Dane Nicole Broch Estrup, who shot a five under par 67.

Charley Hull praises caddy Adam for keeping her calm during the final round of the Aramco Team Series

During her post-round press conference, Charley Hull praised her old caddy Adam for helping her stay calm and collected during the final round.
“Adam is just the best man,” she said. “He’s so goofy! He’s a legend. He kept me so relaxed. We just talked about a lot of random things.”

Bombing major drives was the theme of the day

The topic of the tournament was the exceptional length that Charley Hull had added to her tee shots – many of which exceeded 300 yards. When asked if she had been training to add height, Hull insisted: “I don’t train for golf, I train for myself. I set myself the goal at the beginning of this year to become an athlete and all that work is making sure that I’m moving on, which is great.”

The Aramco Team Series presented by PIF heralds a new era of golf for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The event in Riyadh was the fifth and final of the 2024 Aramco Team Series, which was presented by PIFthe Saudi Public Investment Fund. PIF finances several major Saudi golf tournaments, including the controversial men’s tournaments LIV Golf Guided tour. The unique format of the Aramco Team Series was praised for being more exciting and fun for spectators to watch. The event started with a two-day, 36-hole team competition, with teams of three professionals and one amateur, producing a winning team score. That trophy was won by the Ladies European Tour rookie of the year Chiara Tamburliniwhose team broke ATS scoring records by shooting an exceptional 43 under par in two days, 10 shots above the field.

Chiara Tamburlini makes history on the Ladies European Tour

Team Tamburlini’s victory capped an incredible first season for the young Swiss golfer. Her individual Top-10 finish in Riyadh earned her enough points to comfortably secure the 2024 LET Order of Merit – a feat that has only been achieved by seven players in the history of women’s football. “I felt very emotional when I entered the 18th hole because I knew what it meant,” said a teary-eyed Tamburlini. “If you had asked me at the beginning of 2024 what I hoped to achieve, I would never have dreamed that I would have such a first season.”

What’s next for Charley Hull? Could a major championship be on the horizon in 2025?

When Charley Hull beat women’s world number 1 Nelly Korda in September’s Solheim Cup Sunday singles 6&4, Dame Laura Davies hailed her as the ‘best player in the women’s game who has never won a major.’ The way she has played this season, she will be a firm favorite to lift one of those illustrious titles next year.

Charley Hull now heads to the LPGA Tour to conclude her 2024 season

Charley Hull returns to the US next week to play on the LPGA Tour, concluding her season at the CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburon Golf Club, Florida, November 21-24, 2024. “I won there in 2016 , so I have fond memories of that place,” Hull added. “Then it’s home for Christmas – I can’t wait.”
