Ankle monitors link teens to armed carjacking in Boca Raton after chase on I-95, police say

After a car chase and history of their ankle monitors, two Broward County teens were arrested in connection with a carjacking in Boca Raton on Thursday afternoon.

The Boca Raton Police Department (BRPD) said 19-year-old Kevin McCall and a 17-year-old boy are accused of stealing a woman’s car at gunpoint. Police said around 2:27 p.m., the two teens allegedly approached a woman sitting in her 2024 Mercedes AMG on SW 18th Street. Armed with a handgun, one of the suspects ordered the victim out of her Mercedes before fleeing eastbound on SW 18th Street.

Fortunately, the victim was not injured during the incident, police said.

Video surveillance showed the suspect fled to Broward County, according to investigators. Boca Raton detectives alerted the Broward Sheriff’s Office and both agencies worked together to identify the suspects. Near the scene of the carjacking, one of the suspects was seen exiting a Honda Accord moments before the crime. Detectives were able to determine the license plate number of the Honda Accord.

Just before 6 p.m., the Honda Accord was spotted traveling on I-95. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and an occupant was seen throwing a firearm out the window, the news release said. Shortly afterwards, five occupants left the Honda on foot. All five were apprehended by BSO and arrested on various counts.

Of the five people in the car, two teenagers were linked to the carjacking in Boca Raton.

Kevin McCall was identified as one of the occupants, according to BRPD. He was wearing the same clothing as described by the carjacking victim and was found with the key fob to the stolen Mercedes in his pocket, investigators said. Additionally, McCall was wearing an ankle monitor, and tracking history placed him at the scene of the carjacking.

The 17-year-old — the driver of the Honda Accord — was also linked to the carjacking through the tracking history of his ankle monitor, which placed him in the immediate vicinity of the crime, police said. The stolen Mercedes was later recovered using the vehicle’s tracking software.

Detectives with the Boca Raton Police Department obtained arrest warrants Friday for McCall and Graham for carjacking with a firearm. Both suspects remain in custody.

Anyone with information regarding this ongoing investigation is urged to call Detective Dale Graham at (561) 620-6175.
