Walker Co. Man arrested in Leeds on charges of burglary, drug dealing and more

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A Walker County man is in custody after leading police on what was described as an “extensive manhunt” from Thursday evening through Friday morning.

Colton McCoy Tubbs, 33, of Oakman, was taken into custody on Friday morning, October 25, in Leeds.

The incident began when Leeds police officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the 8500 block of Whitfield Avenue. There they saw Tubbs enter the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Police attempted to block the vehicle with their patrol cars, but Tubbs managed to maneuver out of the space and began traveling down Weaver Avenue.

When he attempted to pull into the Lowe’s parking lot, Tubbs crashed into planted brush and “multiple utility buildings.” He continued towards the side of the building, destroying a security gate and eventually disabling the vehicle when he crashed into a fence while trying to enter the Orbis JCB grounds.

Tubbs ran on foot where Leeds Police, with the assistance of multiple agencies, conducted a manhunt to find Tubbs, but he could not be located.

On Friday morning, a citizen in the area saw a man leaving the forest line with what appeared to be blood on his pants.

Officers found him in the area where the chase began, in the 8500 block of Whitfield Avenue. After a brief pursuit, Tubbs was taken into custody.

During the subsequent investigation, Tubbs was found to be in possession of not only the stolen vehicle, but also multiple stolen firearms from a burglary in Walker County and Fentanyl.
