A boat crew rescues a man from a van stuck in floodwaters in Shropshire

In recent days, the county has been hit by heavy rains that have caused widespread flooding.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that help was called this morning after a van became stuck in floodwaters in Melverley – one of the areas that always suffer the most from flooding in Shropshire.

The latest fire service alert shows crews were called to Chapel Lane in the village shortly after 11am.

Three fire engines and a water rescue unit are said to have been called to the scene from Baschurch and Shrewsbury.

The services reported that the boat crew rescued one person from the vehicle.

Craig Jackson, writing on social media after the rescue, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service manager, said: “This afternoon, water rescue teams using boats from Shrewsbury fire station rescued a man from a van in flood water near Melverley.”

He also warned of the danger posed by floodwaters, adding: “Roads in the area continue to be flooded. Please do not drive through flood waters.”
