5. Pennsylvania is the fifth-highest state in terms of number of serial killers. There are 5 known serial killers that plague the state of Pennsylvania, the most famous being the “House of Horrors” killer Gary Heidnik. Heidnik murdered two women in his North Philadelphia home, where between 1986 and 1987 he kept six victims in chains and subjected them to electric shocks.

4. Indiana The next one is with 6 famous serial killers. One of the most infamous, William Clyde Gibson, went on a killing spree for a decade before he was finally caught.

3. Ohio and Illinois each have 7 known serial killers. Perhaps one of the most famous serial killers in the world, Jeffrey Dahmer, was born in Ohio.

2.Illinois – with Ohio ties – was the home of John Wayne Gacy, an amateur clown convicted of luring 33 men and boys to his home in the Chicago suburb of Norridge and strangling them.

1. New York is in first place, topping the list with 18 recorded serial killers, one of which is the infamous “Son of Sam” killer. In the late 1970s, David Berkowitz killed 6 people in New York State.
