Elderly mushroom hunter rescued after disappearing in Montesarchio forest

The story of Carmelo Mastropietro, a 74-year-old who suddenly disappeared after going to a forested area in Montesarchio to look for mushrooms, has had a happy ending. Rescuers found the man and provided him with initial aid at the scene. Misericordia of Benevento, authorized by the prefecture, also participated in the search in the Crirignano area. This morning at 8:00 a.m., the Misericordia search and rescue team arrived at the scene together with fire brigade, carabinieri and civil protection units to search the area for the 74-year-old, using volunteers coordinated by the team of leader Francesco De Stasio and made up of Inglese volunteers and Bocchini, using a drone provided by the association. After several hours, the search led to finding the man in an area covered with dense vegetation, also thanks to the help of a helicopter with red helmets. Simultaneously with the discovery, a team from Misericordia in Benevento intervened to carry out a medical examination of the found man, who was considered to be in relatively good health, providing first aid. Misericordia from Benevento has already participated in such interventions on other occasions, thanks to a rescue and search team composed of 12 volunteers specialized in this type of activities, equipped with special equipment and two search drones.
