A five-year-old girl’s message to a ‘hero’ bus driver who noticed something was ‘wrong’ as she was walking alone

When the two were reunited, a five-year-old girl rescued from the roadside by a heroic bus driver shared a heartfelt message.

Adaline “Addy” Gonzalez was seen walking alone on a Harlem sidewalk while Luis Jimenez, 60, worked the morning shift as an MTA bus driver in New York in September.

Now the couple has been reunited, giving Addy the opportunity to express her gratitude for having someone looking out for her.

She told him, “Thank you, Luis, for being my hero and saving my life.”

Addy decided to drop out of school so she could go to the pet store and buy a new fish when hers died that same day. She didn’t tell her parents where she was going, but Jimenez noticed her and felt something was wrong.

“My fatherly instinct kicked in, because if I see a child on the street in need of help, I would want someone to help one of my children or grandchildren,” he said earlier.

He kept his eyes on Addy through the windshield before finally deciding to pull over, call dispatch and use the passenger phone to dial 911.

She was reported missing by the school after she failed to show up for classes, something she had not done before.

Her mother, Julissa, told WABC: “We were totally scared. We didn’t know what to think. We know, we were terrified because she was our daughter.

Addy had already walked ten blocks from her school before Jimenez spotted her.

When he caught up with her this week, he said he couldn’t be happier.

‘It made me feel so good. My heart was beating. I was looking forward to meeting her and her parents because something like this should be celebrated. She was able to go home,” Jimenez told WABC.

To show her appreciation, Addy decided to do something special.

“I decided to name my new fish Luis. I was excited and happy, it was perfect,” she said.

The young girl’s family also showed Jimenez a token of their appreciation and presented him with a New York Jets hat with the words “Addy’s Hero” written on it.

“Driving around New York is a perfect day. I open this door and it’s like the world came to me,” he told The Art of Doing.

He added: “I love my passengers. I want to give them the best trip, the best time, the best view of the city, and then I’ll get them where they’re going.
