Mom’s warning after baby almost dies from virus

Gemma, from Alfreton, Derbyshire, said she would “take the risk” if she had the opportunity to have the vaccine while pregnant.

The mother-of-two said she remembered being told to prepare for the worst when Harry was first admitted.

After 10 days in intensive care, her son survived, but the experience left a significant impact on his loved ones.

“This experience had a devastating impact on our family,” the 31-year-old said.

“It’s something we’ll never get over, and two years later we’re still having a hard time getting over the trauma.”

Harry’s older brother, Thomas, continues to worry when his younger siblings are unwell.

The child is still being assessed for chest and respiratory problems after he contracted the virus three times and was hospitalized on other occasions.

Ms Potts, who works at the trust as a recruitment assistant, said: “It’s really important that people understand how bad this virus can be.

“I hope no child or family goes through what we went through, and I truly believe this vaccine will save many children’s lives.”
