Building collapse in Bengaluru: 6 more bodies found; owner, contractor detained

Police on Wednesday said six more bodies had been recovered during a search and rescue operation after an under-construction building collapsed in Babusapalya, raising the death toll to seven.

Teams from the fire and rescue services, the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force were forced to take part in rescue operations as the incident occurred during heavy downpour on Tuesday, they said.

“Bhuvan Reddy, son of Muniraja Reddy, under whose name the building is being constructed, and the contractor Muniyappa, who was constructing it, have been detained,” a senior police official said.

“The permission was granted only for the construction of a four-story building, but seven floors were under construction,” the official said.

“Six more bodies were recovered and six workers were injured,” the official said.
