The suspect in the Georgia high school shooting pleads not guilty and demands a jury trial

Apalachee High School shooting suspect Colt Gray has pleaded not guilty and is now seeking a jury trial.

Court documents filed by his attorney show that the 14-year-old accused of killing four people and wounding nine others in the Sept. 4 mass shooting at a Georgia high school also waived his Nov. 21 arraignment hearing. .

Last week, a Barrow County grand jury indicted Gray on a total of 55 charges as an adult, including murder in the deaths of four people and 25 counts of aggravated assault in the high school. A grand jury indicted his father, Colin Gray, on 29 counts, including two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of manslaughter. Both also face multiple charges of cruelty to children.

Colin Gray, 54, was arrested and charged with allegedly purchasing the gun used in the shooting and giving it to Colt for Christmas.

Teachers Richard Aspinwall (39) and Cristina Irimie (53) and students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo (14) were killed in the Sept. 4 shooting. Another teacher and eight more students were injured, and seven of them were hit by gunfire.

Georgia is one of 42 states nationwide that hold parents criminally responsible for their children.

Colin Gray had not yet entered a plea as of Tuesday and is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 21, according to The Associated Press. Meanwhile, his son is demanding a jury trial, Atlanta News First reports.

Colt Gray is in the Gainesville Juvenile Detention Center and Colin Gray is in the Barrow County Jail. None of them applied for bail.

Colt Gray faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole or life in prison with the possibility of parole if convicted.
