Virginia State Police troopers rescue a woman trapped in a car submerged in a retention pond in Fairfax County

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA (DC News Now) – Two Virginia State Police (VSP) troopers rescued a woman from a car that plunged into a retention pond in Fairfax County on Sunday evening.

On October 20 at approximately 9:40 p.m., two officers responded to Exit 60 on Route 123 after a 40-year-old woman drove off the road into a retention pond on eastbound Interstate 66.

She got stuck in a car that submerged in water.

Two soldiers jumped into the retention pond and managed to save her, pulling her out through the car’s sunroof.

The woman was taken to hospital for examination, and due to the frosty weather, two soldiers were examined.

VSP said the cause of the crash was still under investigation.
