KSHB showcases two projects in Kochi; The state will have a new housing policy

The government would come out with a new state housing policy in view of the need to develop area-specific housing schemes as Kerala increasingly becomes a victim of natural disasters, K. Rajan, Minister of Revenue and Housing, said on Tuesday (October 22). He inaugurated work on two new residential and commercial buildings onlinecomplexes in Ernakulam.

The minister said a study would be carried out on building materials that could be used in various areas to meet the requirements of the Housing Viability Program.

New projects in Ernakulam include a residential and commercial complex at Padamugal in Thrikkakara Municipality. The complex will be built for 15 cents owned by the housing authority. With the support of potential customers, six residential apartments and commercial facilities will be built. Buyers will pay as construction progresses to ensure timeliness and quality of the apartments and retail complex.

“The second complex will be built at Kumaranasan Nagar in Elamkulam. There will be 24 residential apartments and a modern commercial and service complex with modern amenities and the possibility of generating solar energy,” said the minister. The project will include a swimming pool on the terrace of the proposed complex, a gymnasium, a banquet hall and an outdoor playground, he added.

Due to the responsibility for the construction of houses for economically weaker social groups at local government bodies, the Housing Cooperative started implementing projects on its own and changed its models, adapting them to the current market requirements. These involve collecting money from potential customers who pay as the project progresses. The new complexes would be comparable to the highest quality buildings offered by private construction companies in the country – added the Minister.

Investment in Padamugal will be a big attraction for investors due to its location near the civil station, hospitals and IT center. Completing the Kochi Metro extension would make commuting easier for residents.
