Thunder athletics summary – Radio KIWA

Lightning Football:
During the Thunder Football team’s final home game, presentations and recognition were given to sophomores graduating from NCC so they could transfer to a four-year college or university or pursue a career. We wish them well in their future journeys and thank them for their dedication and contributions in this inaugural season.

As this inaugural season comes to a close, we are incredibly proud of the growth, hard work and spirit shown by all of our athletes. This season marks the beginning of a bright future for Thunder Football. We also express our gratitude to the coaching staff for their guidance and leadership throughout this historic season, and to Thunder fans for their unwavering support.

Men’s soccer:
NCC Thunder lost 1-0 to Southeastern Community College in a close match. Goalkeeper Charlie Prtenjaca made 11 key saves to keep the game within reach. The only goal of the game came from Southeast, with Thunder trailing by one goal.

Women’s soccer:
The women’s team tied 1-1 with Southeastern. After a scoreless first half, Southeastern opened the scoring 20 minutes into the second half. Shortly thereafter, NCC’s Ana Reyna responded with a goal on the next possession to tie the game.

Shooting Sports: JUCO Trap Championships (ICCAC Shooting)

Ten ICCAC teams met at the New Pioneer Gun Club in Waukee on October 19-20 to compete in the 2024 ICCAC Championships. All competitors showed strong performances, and the NCC athletes made a major impact on the rankings.

In the team standings, Iowa Western placed first with a score of 494/500, while NCC placed 6th overall with a score of 478/500. Here are the individual highlights:

  • Blake Van Roekel: He scored 98 points for a total of 9th place
  • Aaron Pierce: He scored 97 points and is in 18th place
  • Carson Vander Weide: He scored 96 points and is in 27th place
  • Derek Lawson: He scored 94 points, which gives him 46th place
  • Wilson Lofstedt: He scored 93 points, which gives him 55th place

This was the NCC Sports Shooting team’s final game of the season and their performances throughout the year have been outstanding. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to what the future holds for these talented athletes.
