Patience and clear skies at Sunset Reservoir

Monday was our most unusual small plane flight with SBA ever. Leaving for our scheduled early afternoon flight to Lompoc, we joined a dozen or so other planes waiting to take off.

Typically, arriving planes at SBA are shuffled like a deck of cards to blend seamlessly with departing planes. Instead, we waited patiently while dozens of planes landed safely in front of a growing, patient audience that was unable to leave. Observers included both the smallest and largest aircraft that typically fly on SBA. It was truly inspiring.

During the surprisingly long wait at one of the runway entrances, we didn’t hear a single complaint or even a question about what the problem might be or when it was likely to be resolved. I’m still curious though, so if anyone knows… (Max?). Coming back later, we saw vehicles on the taxiway, so maybe it had something to do with animals, debris, or repairs?

Anyway, walking home at sunset, the light was warm. I took a photo of a small body of water in the hills to share. The clear blue sky above was obscured by fog, giving the impression of a hole in space-time wearing a tiara of ley lines.
